The best part about having your Block Island wedding or Block Island elopement is that you can have your ceremony on the beach — with a guest list of <75! If you’re over that number make sure to chat with the Town Hall about any permits required (and for your marriage license!).
The best part about getting married out here is you really don’t need to spend thousands on your wedding dress, or any other part of your wedding day. There’s plenty of ways to really focus on you and your love, or go big and have a blowout on your big day.

Most Accessible Beaches for a Beach Ceremony
I get this question a lot: what’s a really accessible wedding location so that my grandparents/other folks with mobility challenges can join in the celebration too.
Crescent Beach
Planning a beach wedding poses tons of challenges — a big one being where the heck do we get married?! Crescent Beach is perfect for a morning or late afternoon outdoor ceremony on the beach. You will find more tourists on this beach particularly from 11–3PM.
With an access point for a vehicle across the Beach Head, and a walkway at Town Beach it’s possible for folks in wheelchairs to gain access to the beach at those two points. There’s tons of parking along the strip of Corn Neck Road for your guests, and any access point is a short walk from the beach.
Grace’s and Dories Cove
Both offer something a little more private with long beaches just a short walk from the parking area. Both don’t offer tons of parking and tend to be a little more intimate making them great for small weddings and vow renewals.
Charleston Beach
Another beach that offers a little intimacy and has a short walk from parking, AND you can drive out onto, Charleston Beach is great for a small wedding party, and a few family members. Definitely better before or after sunset, as folks from the neighborhood flock there to see the son go down.
The Nook at North Lighthouse
One of the best kept secrets in Rhode Island (whoops), the little nook at the North Lighthouse parking area offers a perfect little spot for your wedding day. A beach that also has an access point for a vehicle, it’s great for a small wedding with family that can’t do long walks or hikes or aren’t ambulatory.
Most Remote Beaches for a Beach Ceremony
Let’s talk about some of the more remote beaches for your wedding ideas. If your wedding date falls on a weekend between June and August be prepared for …tourists.
Black Rock Beach
One of the harder to get to beaches, this’ll require driving down a dirt road that’s best for 4WD cars that you don’t care about (you’ll get quite a few scratches on the way). Once you hit the end of the road, there is some solid parking and good spots right from there overlooking the beach.
If you press on down to the beach or head off into the paths, there are lots of more intimate locations. Because this isn’t easy to get to, there often aren’t tourists here during the week or before 10AM and after 4PM.
Cormorant Cove
Tucked off Champlin Road you’ll find Cormorant Cove. A small beach with harbor views, it’s often overlooked by many as it’s not marked on maps or well marked on the road. A rocky beach, there is a lot of privacy at this beach with big beautiful harbor views.
The Old Ferry Dock
With limited parking, just 3–4 spots, the old ferry dock can be a very intimate spot, with just maybe a fisherman or two in view. The ferry dock itself is only visible during low tide.
The Beach at Painted Rock
So many people visit painted rock for the …painted rock. But if you head down the hill, and down a path off to the left you’ll find a lovely private little beach with loads of big cliffs hanging over you. A favorite for surfers, it’s a locals beach that sees very little action from tourists.
The Best Block Island Beaches for Sunset
Cooneymus Beach
Off on the West Side of the island you’ll find Cooneymus beach. Don’t forget to check out the driftwood fort there. A great spot for sunset, it’s pretty accessible for those who aren’t interested in hiking.
The Dump Beach
I know I know, it’s the dump. You won’t smell it though — promise. It’s a favorite spot for sunset as no one thinks to go there. It’s also super accessible.
Coast Guard Beach
If you go to the end of Champlin Road you’ll find Coast Guard beach. A favorite for fisherman, there’s plenty of space here to hang out for sunset and see the boats coming into the harbor.
The North Point
If you’re looking for a hike (or a fun ride in a jeep), the North point is for you. At the very tip of the island you’ll find the north point, where two currents merge into one. You’ll also find seals hanging out…
